Founder’s Journey – Sujatha

Sujatha, the founder of Suji Fashion Designing & Tailoring, began her journey with a simple skill and a powerful dream—to turn her hobby into a sustainable career. Sometimes a seeming failure when recognized and utilized correctly could become a beautiful successful story. This is one such a story. When Suji, from Tiruchy, TamilNadu, failed in one subject in class XII, she had one year to prepare and write the exam. Being creative and artistic, she also used this time to learn tailoring, secretly, because her father did not approve of her learning to stitch. Somehow she managed to learn the trade quickly and efficiently.
Later she continued her studies, completing bachelors in Commerce, all the while continuing her passion for stitching, designing and selling stitched clothes. She moved to UAE after her marriage in 2002 , and through the family commitments and raising kids, she continued her interest and consistently kept her tailoring work going. She asked her husband for a good sewing machine and promised to return the money. She returned the money very quickly through her earnings from tailoring. Coming from Tamil Nadu and establishing herself in the UAE was not easy. One of her biggest struggles was the English language. Communicating with people from different cultures, understanding systems, and building confidence took time, patience, and courage. Instead of giving up, she chose to learn one step at a time. Her students admire her for her compassionate dedicated teaching. Sujatha says, she learns from her student as well.
There were moments of self-doubt, cultural challenges, and financial uncertainty. But Sujatha believed that consistency matters more than speed. Her journey proves that growth does not have to be linear to be meaningful—it only needs to be honest and persistent.
